Alas, poor Allie...
so the way I see it, Holden was basically driven by this mental image he had of Allie. He compares everybody around him to that memory and basically judges them. And since, in his mind, young Allie was all well, basically everybody else equals fail. (it's like looking at my grades compared to kyle's. It's just not fair.)

Man, or Man-Child?
So, keeping in mind this week's question, I have come to this conclusion.
HOLDEN COUFIELD HAS THE MENTALITY OF A CHILD.
Several times during class we have talked about him doing things like changing his personality when people are near him. And yes, we all do this. HOWEVER, most people do it on a near
sub-concious level. Several times we get him doing things like throwing bull around simply for the pleasure of watching people fall for this. I have a six-year old brother (whose stuck in the body of an 11-year old, if you catch my drift...) WHO DOES THE SAME THING. And I have to say, I find it to be quite...annoying.

Week Two
So, for a second time, I can't put this book down. I'm already about four chapters ahead of where we're supposed to be.
Anyway, as for themes, what I find interesting is that as bleak as this book may seem, I just can get a bad atmosphere from it, you know? Alot of times, you'll read a book and whenever the characters are outside you get a mental image of it being overcast. That simply does not happen here. I find myself seeing more normal daytime settings, even in chapter 8 on the train.
I was pointing out in lit circles today how I think that things like Allie and Jane remind Holden of his childhood, almost like he's pining for the days before he got all serious. It's like he knows he's got something wrong with him and he doesn't want to be like that.

OMG first.
So yea. Catcher in the Rye. Probably one of the most controversial books I've ever read before, and now, off to read it again. I'll have to watch those spoilers...
Anyway, if you consider all the people who've done crazy things and said, basically, "The book made me do it", you have to wonder; what did they see? This time through I'm determined to search for underlying innuendos. Post 'em as you find em.
